NEW YORK — Former President Bill Clinton offered a reassuring message about his recovery in October 2021, telling supporters that he was back home and determined to continue his work after spending several days hospitalized in California with an infection that had spread to his bloodstream.
Clinton, then 75, was admitted to UC Irvine Medical Center after experiencing fatigue. Doctors treated him for a non-COVID-related infection that was later described by an aide as a urological infection that had spread into the bloodstream. The aide said Clinton was recovering and had not experienced septic shock.

After several days of medical treatment, Clinton was discharged from the hospital on October 17, 2021.
Dr. Alpesh Amin, who oversaw Clinton’s medical team, said at the time that Clinton’s fever and white blood cell count had normalized. He was expected to return to his home in New York and complete his course of antibiotics.
Clinton later released a video message from home thanking the doctors and nurses who cared for him.
“I was so touched by the outpouring of support I received during my stay in the hospital,” Clinton said, expressing gratitude to the medical staff at UC Irvine Medical Center.
