Trump-Endorsed Candidates Sweep Arizona GOP Primaries
President Donald Trump’s endorsed slate delivered decisive victories in Arizona’s Republican primaries Tuesday, reinforcing his continued influence over the state party and positioning conservatives for competitive races in November.
U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs secured the Republican nomination for governor, defeating fellow Rep. David Schweikert and other challengers by a wide margin. The win sets up a rematch against Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, who advanced unopposed. Hobbs narrowly defeated Kari Lake in 2022. Biggs, a former Freedom Caucus chairman, campaigned on tax cuts, border security, and restoring law and order. Trump had previously endorsed multiple candidates in the race before Biggs entered, later praising him as a strong future governor while noting the loss of his voice in Congress.
In the open 1st Congressional District, former Arizona Cardinals kicker and sports analyst Jay Feely captured the GOP nomination with Trump’s backing. Feely will face Democrat Amish Shah in the competitive suburban seat covering parts of Scottsdale and northeastern Maricopa County. Trump described Feely and another contender as “Two Highly Respected America First Patriots,” adding that either would “never let you down.”
Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, another Trump-backed candidate, won the Republican primary in the solidly Republican 5th District, the seat Biggs is vacating. Trump called Lamb a “MAGA Warrior” and gave him his “Complete and Total Endorsement.” Lamb emphasized border security, support for law enforcement, and reducing regulations.
Incumbent Rep. Juan Ciscomani advanced unopposed in the 6th District with Trump’s support. The president also endorsed several other Arizona Republicans, including Reps. Eli Crane, Paul Gosar, and Abe Hamadeh, signaling broad alignment behind candidates focused on border security, economic growth, and election integrity.
On the Democratic side, Hobbs easily won renomination. In the 4th District, Rep. Greg Stanton held off a progressive challenger.
The results highlight Republican unity around Trump-aligned priorities in a key Sun Belt battleground. With the midterms roughly 100 days away, Biggs’ nomination gives Republicans a clear path to reclaim the governor’s office, while the congressional winners strengthen the party’s efforts to hold and expand seats. Candidates have pledged close coordination with the Trump administration on border enforcement and economic issues central to Arizona voters.
