WASHINGTON — The criminal case surrounding the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has entered a major new phase, while a range of unverified claims circulating online about his family and associates remain outside the established evidence in court.
Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The FBI launched an investigation and later arrested Tyler Robinson, who is accused of the killing. The FBI has publicly released surveillance footage and described physical evidence recovered from the scene, including shoe impressions and other trace evidence.
On September 1, 2026, a Utah judge ruled that Robinson must stand trial after prosecutors presented evidence they said established sufficient grounds to proceed. Robinson pleaded not guilty to capital murder and six other charges. If convicted of aggravated murder, he could face the death penalty under Utah law.

The same distinction applies to claims involving alleged locations, private relationships or meetings. Being associated with another person or being present at a particular location does not, by itself, establish participation in a crime.
