KYIV, UKRAINE — Russia has intensified its aerial campaign against Ukraine, launching waves of drones and missiles as the war enters another period of heightened tension. Ukrainian authorities have reported repeated attacks targeting cities and critical infrastructure, with air defenses activated as incoming threats approached populated areas.
The latest strikes have caused damage to residential and civilian infrastructure in several regions, while emergency crews have been deployed to respond to fires, damaged buildings and other consequences of the attacks. Air raid warnings have continued to disrupt daily life, with residents urged to seek shelter when alerts are issued.
Recent reporting has documented sustained Russian drone and missile attacks on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine. Reuters reported that a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service in central Kyiv on September 4, injuring at least 12 people and damaging the surrounding area.
Earlier in September, another major barrage killed at least 12 people in Kyiv and the surrounding region, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks involved drones and missiles and also damaged residential and energy infrastructure.
Against this backdrop, social media and unofficial channels have circulated claims alleging that a Russian strike targeted a secure Ukrainian location and killed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Some posts have further alleged that Ukrainian media organizations were suppressing information about his supposed death.
Those claims remain unverified. No credible evidence identified in current reporting confirms that Zelenskyy has been killed, and established international news organizations have not reported his death. Recent reporting instead continues to document Zelenskyy carrying out presidential duties, including discussions surrounding Ukraine’s air defenses and diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war.
The spread of such claims highlights the difficulty of verifying information during an active conflict, where battlefield developments, official statements and fabricated reports can circulate simultaneously.
Until credible independent evidence or an official confirmation emerges, reports claiming that President Zelenskyy has been killed should not be treated as established fact. The confirmed reality remains that Ukraine continues to face sustained Russian aerial attacks, while diplomatic efforts to halt the war remain ongoing.
