WASHINGTON — Viral social media posts claiming President Donald Trump was shot in Washington, D.C., “minutes ago” are not supported by credible reporting or official information.
A review of coverage from major news organizations found no confirmation of any such shooting. Neither Reuters nor The Associated Press is reporting that the president has been hit. The White House continues to issue routine updates on administration business.
Any attack on a sitting president would normally produce immediate statements from the Secret Service, the White House and national news outlets. That response has not occurred.
Unverified claims about Trump’s safety often spread quickly, especially when paired with dramatic headlines, altered images or videos stripped of context. A clip posted online is not proof an event just happened. Old footage, material from unrelated incidents or recycled images from earlier attacks are frequently mislabeled.
Trump was shot in the ear on July 13, 2024, during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. One attendee was killed and others were wounded. Photographs of Trump with blood on his face from that day remain widely available and are sometimes recirculated as if they depict a new incident.
Other 2024 and 2026 security episodes near Trump — including gunfire near his Florida golf club and separate incidents in Washington — did not result in him being shot. Current reporting focuses instead on administration policy and ongoing international issues.
Until federal authorities or multiple reputable news organizations confirm an attack, claims that Trump has been shot in Washington should be treated as unverified. The responsible step is to wait for authoritative confirmation rather than share sensational posts as fact.
