TUCSON, Ariz. — The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, remains unresolved more than seven months after she vanished from her home north of Tucson.
Nancy was last seen at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2026, after a relative dropped her off following dinner. She was reported missing the following day after she failed to appear for a church service as expected.
Investigators quickly treated the residence as a crime scene, and authorities have said they believe Nancy was taken against her will. Despite an extensive investigation involving the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI, no arrest has been announced and her whereabouts remain unknown.
🔎 Family Members Cleared as Investigators Pursue Leads
Authorities have repeatedly stated that Nancy’s children, siblings and their spouses are not suspects in the case. Officials have described the family members as victims and said they have cooperated with investigators.
The clarification came as speculation spread across social media, prompting authorities to warn the public against relying on unverified theories.
Investigators have emphasized that evidence—not online rumors—will determine the direction of the case.
One of the most important pieces of evidence remains doorbell-camera footage released by the FBI. The video shows a masked individual approaching Nancy’s front door around the time of her disappearance.
Authorities have not publicly identified the person and have cautioned that the footage alone does not establish who the individual is or what role, if any, that person played.
Investigators have urged residents in the surrounding area to review surveillance footage for unfamiliar vehicles, people or unusual activity before and after Nancy disappeared.

Investigators have also examined physical evidence recovered away from Nancy’s home, including a glove found miles from the residence because of similarities to equipment visible in surveillance footage.
The item was submitted for forensic analysis, while investigators have also examined DNA evidence recovered from the home.
Authorities have stressed that a DNA finding by itself does not necessarily identify a perpetrator. Investigators must establish when the material was deposited and whether it is connected to the disappearance rather than ordinary activity inside the residence.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has continued to say investigators remain committed to solving the case. The sheriff’s office and FBI have received tens of thousands of tips, creating a massive volume of information for investigators to evaluate.

A substantial reward has also been offered for information that leads investigators to Nancy or results in a conviction. Reports have placed the reward at approximately $1 million to $1.2 million.
Investigators continue to emphasize that seemingly minor details could prove critical—a vehicle seen at an unusual hour, a person walking through the area or surveillance footage from a private camera that captured a license plate or other identifying information.
The case has also generated false leads and alleged scams. Authorities have investigated communications sent to media outlets claiming to contain information about Nancy’s fate. A California man was sentenced after making a false ransom demand connected to the case.
Officials have warned the public not to send money or scan QR codes associated with fraudulent claims.
Savannah Guthrie has continued making emotional public appeals for information, repeatedly asking anyone who knows something to come forward.
For the Guthrie family, the uncertainty remains devastating.
