TUCSON, Ariz. — More than seven months after Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her home north of Tucson, investigators are still working to determine what happened to the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie.
Nancy was last seen at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2026, after a relative dropped her off at home following dinner. She was reported missing the next day when she failed to appear for a scheduled church service.
Authorities quickly began treating the residence as a crime scene. Investigators have said they believe Nancy was taken against her will, but her whereabouts remain unknown and no arrest has been announced.
🔎 Investigators Focus on Surveillance Footage
One of the key pieces of evidence released publicly is doorbell-camera footage obtained from Nancy’s Google Nest system.
The video shows a masked individual approaching the residence around the time Nancy disappeared. Investigators have not publicly identified the person or established that the individual shown in the footage was responsible for Nancy’s disappearance.
Authorities have urged residents in the area to examine their own surveillance systems, particularly footage showing unfamiliar vehicles or people during the hours surrounding Nancy’s disappearance.
The request reflects the importance of reconstructing the timeline around the home that night. Even apparently insignificant details—such as a passing vehicle, a person walking nearby or a license plate captured briefly on camera—could potentially help investigators.
🧬 Physical and Forensic Evidence Examined
Investigators have also examined physical evidence recovered away from Nancy’s residence.
A glove found several miles from the home attracted attention because it appeared similar to equipment visible in the surveillance footage. The item was submitted for DNA testing as investigators worked to determine whether it had any connection to the case.
Authorities have also analyzed DNA evidence recovered from inside the residence.
Investigators have emphasized that forensic evidence must be interpreted in context. A DNA profile alone does not necessarily establish when material was left behind or prove that it is connected to a crime.
The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have received tens of thousands of tips since Nancy disappeared, creating an enormous amount of information for investigators to review.

Authorities have repeatedly stated that Nancy’s children, siblings and their spouses are not suspects.
Investigators have described family members as victims and said they have cooperated with the investigation. Officials have also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified theories online, particularly claims directed at members of Nancy’s family.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has continued to say investigators remain committed to finding answers.

A significant financial reward has been offered for information leading to Nancy’s recovery or a conviction. Reports have placed the reward between $1 million and $1.2 million.
The investigation has also generated false claims and alleged scams. Authorities have investigated communications sent to media organizations purporting to contain information about Nancy’s fate. A California man was later sentenced in connection with a false ransom demand related to the case.
Officials have warned the public not to send money or interact with suspicious QR codes connected to purported information about the disappearance.
Savannah Guthrie has continued making public appeals for information, asking anyone who may know something to contact investigators.
For the Guthrie family, the central questions remain unanswered: Who was the masked individual? What happened after Nancy arrived home? And where is she today?
